Living between Boston and North Shore … What do you recommend?
My wife and I are moving to the Northern Shore of Boston for work. We looking for a cool, fun, and reasonable area to live. We'd love to live in the back bay or the North End, but I do not know if we can permit. I will work in the Peabody / Danvers area. Salem I heard mentioned, but during the visit, I did not feel it was city fun (ie. good restuarants, bars, culture, people out and about). Maybe I was in the wrong place? He seems to lack something. BTW, We are in our mid-late 20s. Thank you in advance for any recommendations.
Salem OK but I've never been a big fan for some reason. There are actually some decent restaurants there and it seems that it's getting better but anyway I think that Salem is overrated. I had the same time, Salem held on as you did – it seems that something is missing. I would say Cambridge or Somerville parts are worth exploring. (Davis Square or north from there to the Tufts University). Many excellent restaurants there (some of the best Italian food in Boston, is greater in Somerville, Diners and large) and is a good location – easy access to Boston. And it is more affordable than the North End and Back Bay as well. There are college kids, of course, for most Tufts and Harvard, but also young families and professionals working and living conditions of elderly residents is therefore a good mix.
