Puppies Behind Bars Program
Have you heard of "The Puppies Behind Bars" program?

http://www.puppiesbehindbars.com/index.asp is a program where at 8 weeks they send a puppy to a prison inmate carefully selected to be trained and socialized to become service dogs or police dogs. So you've heard about the program and what do you think of this?

Yes, I heard about it and similar programs. Our local women's prison trains service dogs (both puppies and adults also rescues have appropriate temperaments), and also takes in dogs from rescue with behavioral difficulties and rehabilitates, trains, and their house. They call their program "Prison Paws for Humanity. The program is supervised by a professional dog trainer who works with inmates and dogs every day, and inmates are with their dog almost 24 / 7. I think it's a great program, inmates learn responsibility and care deeply for dogs, they care and contribute to society. The dogs are very well trained when they have completed the program and are in high demand in the community. A friend of mine adopted a dog From the program, and took me with her to help choose the dog. Inmates were beautiful, you could see how much they really cared about dogs, and they took a lot of fun to talk about "their" dog personality. To be allowed to have a dog and be part of the program is a privilege which is earned by inmates with the best behavior. Add: Moof, you'd be surprised! The prisons have programs that are generally safe minimum. Visitors of all types (including children, seniors, etc.) are frequent, and are allowed to interact directly with prisoners. Least Security is not at all like the maximum-security controls that you see on TV! These programs also tend to have a large enough number of dogs of different types at once. Thus, while their environment is limited to the prison and meters that surround it, they are exposed to many people of all types and other dogs during the program.
